- Cream:
- 1/2 cup butter (Original recipe was lard, but Crisco is OK)
- 2 cups sugar
- Add:
- 3 eggs and beat
- 1/2 cup lukewarm coffee
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- Mix well.
- Add:
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 cup boiling water.
- Mix well
- Put in a greased cake pan and bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. Check at 25 to 30 minutes - your cooking time may vary.
If you don't happen to have left over coffee, use lukewarm water for the 1/2 cup measure and 1 cup boiling coffee instead of the boiling water.
I greatly prefer this topped with the Broiled Praline Icing.
