Shirley Elmore's Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Mix thoroughly
    • 2/3 cup soft shortening (part butter)
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
    • 1 egg
    • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • Sift together and stir in
    • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour (for a softer more rounded cookie, use 1 3/4 cups flour)
    • 1/2 tsp. soda
    • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • Stir in
    • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans)
    • 6 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces (about 1 1/4 cups)
  • Drop by teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake at 375 degrees approximately 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Allow to cool slightly before removing from baking sheet.
