- Soak 6 slices of dry cubed bread in 1 1/2 cups of warm milk.
- Add a dash of salt

Combine and beat well
- 2 egg yolks
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
and add to the bread and milk mixture
- Add 1/4 cup raisins or chopped dates.
- Stir lightly with fork
- If you do not wish to top with meringue, whip egg whites until stiff and fold in here

Bake in oval or square deep dish at 350 degrees for approximately 50 minutes.
- If you want meringue, bake the pudding until done.
- Beat until stiff
- 2 egg whites
- 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- Spread on top of baked pudding.
- Brown in hot oven at 425 minutes for 3 to 4 minutes.
